Vic Valencheck Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 On a visit to my brother n laws for Thanksgiving he had two fans that he got from a client of his. Knowing that I collected fans he offered them to me. I couldn't turn down a freebie no matter what they were. Haha One is a 12" GE 49X929 AB/SC, 2speed oscillator . I think it's from the late 30's. It acually runs but missing the base plate cover. I'm not sure what the make of the other fan is. Could be a Sterling or some other dime store brand. It's a 10" one speed with a cast iron base. It also runs which is a plus. Quote
David Kilnapp Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Very nice "freebie" fans, Vic. That no name fan will clean up nicely and with a little bright enamel paint will make a very nice gift for a nephew or niece going off to college. I had the very same fan given to me and it was received very well. I seem to recall painting it a nice turquoise. Don't recall the make but the base was identical to your fan. Quote
Juan Varleta Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Looks an awful lot like a dandy Handybreeze from Chicago Electric. Quote
Vic Valencheck Posted December 1, 2021 Author Posted December 1, 2021 Does anyone know what the base plate looks like for the GE? Quote
Stan Adams Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 The one is a White Cross missing its badge. I have made numerous GE bases out of plywood, many of those in this time frame used the riveted on cardboard base. Quote

Never would have thought of the other one as a White Cross. Quote
Stan Adams Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Hey Vic, I had the exact fan until a few years ago. I do wrap the plywood in felt. The ones with the cardboard base go inside the base flange instead of the base covering the outside rim of the base. Due to this design, the plywood disc works great. Quote
Noah Britt Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 That GE Standard is a 1937-38 according to Bill Kreiner's GE survey. Stan's right about the plywood, it works great and looks great covered in felt. Quote
Vic Valencheck Posted December 4, 2021 Author Posted December 4, 2021 I had already found a metal base plate at Antique Fan Parts. Plywood would have been my second option. Thanks guys for your input. Quote

A friend who drives artist tour buses had a material that is used in high-end coaches that will also bend a little and I have made one to replace the cardboard on my GE fans. Will see how it works out. Quote
