I spotted this fan and noticed it is a bit different.  The paint on the ring is off from the rest of the motor.  The Japanned looks original and there are hints of something shinny underneath.

That is probably a brass/bronze oscillating ring. Some came this way. You may want to pick that up if the price is reasonable.

I did.  Took a chance and will have to wait to see.

According to the seller, A magnet does NOT stick to the ring. Good luck.

Sold this one about 15 years ago. It has a brass reproduction oscillator on it that I bought. Had the brass ring on it. It was in bad shape when I bought it.

All 3 have acorns on stator bolts with profile struts.

Russ, mine does not have the acorn nuts. It has the screws instead and uses the two-eared knob on the gearbox. Are these screws correct, or is it later? It has the normal loop, no cast handle.

Just trying to make some kind of timeline or sense of the use of brass instead of cast iron for the ring. If you have a brass ring example with screws instead of acorns, so much for making sense.

For a short period GE used cast red brass rings. Kim Frank might be able to shed some light on this.
