Jared DelOrfano
I know I shared this on the Vintage Vornado Facebook group, but I don’t think I ever posted a finished product on the forum. Here’s my B38C1-1, circa 1950-1954. I bought this while on vacation in Nashville last year. I took the fan completely apart, pulled and cleaned the stator, and with the help of some kind folks here on the forum, fixed up the head wires coming out of the stator. I also replaced a few grommets and bought a blade hub from the Vornado doctor. Thanks to everyone who answered my questions on this part of the restoration. The thing I’m most proud of on this fan is that I was able to salvage the paint. The whole fan was covered in dirt and grease. I ended up using Gojo on it to remove the dirt then polished it with two coats of Meguiar’s #2 followed by two coats of their #9. All this took HOURS! Although you can definitely see some pitting in the paint on top of the fan up close, I am still very pleased with the end result! Shiny but still original. Ryan King
What did you use(as far as tools and such) to do the coats of Meguiar’s? I’m looking to do the same with my 28C1

I’m looking to do the same with my 28C1 Someone told me to treat the fan like a ‘57 Chevy Bel Air, which was pretty helpful throughout the clean up. At first I used these microfiber applicators from Walmart on the outside of the fan and flatter spots. As I got into the motor and tighter areas I just switched to plain old microfiber rags. I bought a giant roll of them from Walmart and kept them to wash/reuse in the future.
Ryan King
Thanks! I’ll go get those this weekend! I think mine has a lot of good patina to really show and a quality battle scar unfortunately. You wouldn’t happen to know how to pull out dents or to pop out a dent on the main cowl would you?
Jared DelOrfano
@Ryan King That I’m not sure about. There is a group on Facebook called Vintage Vornado Fans you might want to try to get a good answer on that if there aren’t any posts on the AFCA forums
