Steve Horton
I bought a century ceiling fan from a friend. It has the open cast top. I can’t hear any bearing noise but it would probably be a good idea to replace it before hanging it. Does anybody know where I can find the proper thrust bearing? I’ve searched the internet. It seems a lot of vintage fans use the same size but I haven’t had much luck finding the size. Does anybody have the size?
Steve Cunningham
Just about any bearing supply house will have them.
Mark Beldin
I have worked on several. the thrust bearing is a multiple staggered ball bearing with flat hardened races. Unless you see some damage to the flat race areas it will be fine after a good cleaning.
Steve Horton
The bearing actually looked good. I ordered a replacement which works out. I pulled the cup off an oak leaf yesterday. I was using it but took it down because of all the bearing noise. That bearing was shot but the fans use the same bearing. The GE is going back up. Thanks
