Bryan Eshenbaugh Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 I have two Emerson 79648-AX fans, 115v, 60c, 1.4a. One is stamped with a 30 micro date and has an aluminum base. The other is stamped 31 with an over stamp of 32 and has a magnetic steel/cast base. I read Steve Steven’s blog on Emerson identification but doesn’t cover the later models. I was wondering if Emerson offered a “Lighter” version? Or why the difference in base on same model? Thanks for any info. 👍 Quote
Stan Adams Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 I think it was a case of Emerson did not waste anything. Someone found a stash of cast bases & said look what I found. We need to use these up. 1 1 Quote

However, that makes sense due to the earlier one being aluminum. Thanks Stan. 👍 Quote
Stan Adams Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Actually Bryan, your post reminded me, I'm going to do a thread on weird Emerson combos in the near future, I have several & you added another. 3 Quote

My 79646-AQ is cast, both base and motor housing + gearbox. Don’t know if that helps or not but I thought I’d throw it out there. 1 Quote

Maybe those that were sent in for a broke base were repaired with leftover cast bases? Just a theory being so few and not consistent in production? Thanks again. Quote
Ray Rester Posted June 8 Posted June 8 I just received a 79648 fan for a very good price and it runs fine, oscillates very well and the three speeds are quite noticeable in RPM changes unlike my old 24648 which doesn't gain much speed at all through the two higher speeds. I've read about the date codes on the later Emersons, they have the stamped code in the bottom right. You're supposed to add 1920 to the number. I clearly see a single number 2 on mine, not a two digit code, a single number 2 code. I don't think the other second digit is covered in grime or paint. The stamped number is quite sharp and quite deep so i should be able to see the double digit if there were one. Also, in the top left corner of the name plate the letters AB are stamped. The model states a 79648 AQ. it shows the wattage to be 1.12 as stamped on the label, 60 cycles, etc. the cage badge has the Pyramid type badge. I arrived complete and is all black body, blades and cage. So, is this a 1922 Emerson 79648 or is there another row on the AFCA decoder ring I've not yet seen? What is the AB code on the top left and the #2 code on the bottom right of the tag? thanks so much! Raymond Quote
