Bad Diehl?

Last year, I purchased a very poor-condition Diehl 8 inch desk fan for 75 dollars. Did I get ripped off? I was able to get a (12 or 14) inch Diehl of the same run of models, but in perfect condition, for about forty-five dollars, so did I just get lucky wth the big Diehl, or am I just getting ripped off? By the way, just to put into perspective how rough the fan was before it started being restored, I called it "the second spinning jalopy", as the first one was an absolutely trashed Signal Electric fan that, despite how it looked, with dirt covering the whole fan and one of the blades looking to have been run over by a razor scooter, ran perfectly.

Daniel, could we see some pictures of said fans before we render final judgement? Fan collecting sometimes runs that way. Sometimes you pay up for something not so great out of boredom one week, then find something great or at least better the next. There's a lot of fans for sale and coming up for sale. There is no Grand Fan Cabal the controls the fan market prices, with the exception of authors of "Fan Value" books, which you can take with a grain of salt. Current market values for the most part fluctuate, but usually dictate how much lower to mid-collecting level fans are going for. Every now and again, someone lets a fan go because they just don't care about it, or they have no idea of it's worth. I've gotten a lot of nice fans right out of the trash, twice at a recycling station. Do some reading and looking here on the forums, find what you like, and make a top ten list. Go for rarity, quality and above all, condition, condition and condition.
