Jeff Wangen Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 I am new to the collection of antique fans. I was very happy with my fan, but the motor has failed. I dont know much about the fan other that it got my attention in an antique store, so I bought it. It is a Mimms (E.N. Mimms Company-Louisville, KY) 2 blade fan, with a Redmond motor (model 6123). I am told by my local motor repair shop that the insulation on the winings are melted or are melting. I have the motor apart but I do not know what I am looking at. I am looking for some sort of replacement motor (i would like an exact drop in, but I know that is not likely) or insuructions of how to repair it. I would be happy to share pictures, but I do not have a website. I am Any help is appreciated. Quote
Paul Carmody Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 I’m not familiar with the fan and probably a number of other members. You have a better chance of getting an answer if you post pictures of the fan ,and more importantly the melting wires . 1 Quote

Lane Shirey Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 (edited) Just post the pictures. Many people including me won’t click on a random link for security reasons. if the windings are burnt or “melted” it will have to be rewound. There are no easy replacement new motors for most antique and vintage fans. Mimms fans are not common, but if you post pictures and dimensions, there might be a motor from another type fan that will work. Edited June 18, 2024 by Lane Shirey 1 Quote
Jeff Wangen Posted June 18, 2024 Author Posted June 18, 2024 The site wouldnt let me post pictures yesterday without a third party website. Sorry! Quote
Jeff Wangen Posted June 18, 2024 Author Posted June 18, 2024 3/8 shaft, motor OD is 4 3/4, bolt holes are 2 5/8 on center. As I said, I am new to this and have no clue how the remove the windings from the case for starters Quote
Lane Shirey Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 (edited) You'll need to remove the stator, which is not easy for someone just starting out. Your best bet would be to go to a local fan meet to get some hands on help. It will need to be rewound by the looks of it. Redmond motors are known for having problems. You'll notice that there are categories in our forum. If you put posts in the right category, you'll get more attention. You may want to post pics of your motor in the "looking For" category to see if anyone might have one to sell you. Just be advised that rewinding a motor can be $200+ You'll also want to look into servicing that Levolier switch, they're known to corrode and cause problems. The also can be a daunting task. Be sure to mark all wires that you disconnect and take many pictures. It's not always intuitive how they go back together. Edited June 18, 2024 by Lane Shirey Quote
Jeff Wangen Posted June 18, 2024 Author Posted June 18, 2024 Thank you Lane, how might I find a local fan meet? Minneapolis or Des Moines would be the closest to me Quote
Jim Roadt Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 4 hours ago, Jeff Wangen said: Thank you Lane, how might I find a local fan meet? Minneapolis or Des Moines would be the closest to me There was one in New Berlin, Wi in April. There is one in Fox Lake, Illinois this weekend June 22. Quote
Lane Shirey Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 The calendar either on the forum or the website list all or most regional meets. Quote
