GE pancake fan

I have one last issue with this fan. On high I get a knocking. I checked and the rotor is not hitting anything. There is a bit of a sideways travel in the rotor shaft, bearing contact. On the other speeds its not really noticeable. But on the high setting I am getting a knock. Is it possible to install a new bearing? Thanks for any help,.

Darryl has the bearings or can install one. His are drilled with the wick hole. I bought one of his and did it myself with a homemade bearing puller setup using a threaded rod, sockets, nuts and washers. Old out through the front, new in through the back. It was an 03. Don't recall it being fun, Darryl was kind enough to sent hints for me to make it work

If you can get your fingers through the guard to get a fingertip grip on the blade hub, move the blade hub up and down (12 o'clock to 6 o'clock) positions to check for excessive bearing wear. The front bearing will wear egg shaped 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock. A little wear is ok.

Check the end play. That's the in and out movement between the rotor, blade, and bearing housing. Fiber washers will take up the slack. About 1/16th inch movement in and out is good.

The end play is good. There does not seem to be any movement at the 12 and 6. its to the 9 and 3 there is just a bit of movement.
