Jim Roadt
I would like to clean this blade up and maintain an aged patina look. It appears to be nickel plated brass ( non magnetic and brass looking on edges) I did 000 steel wool with mineral spirits on one blade. Any better way of doing this? Take all nickel plating off and age the brass? I just do not want perfectly polished shiny brass ( not that there is anything wrong with that ) on this one Any suggestions...other than shiny vs patina ....appreciated
Russ Huber
FWIW....The parts seen here were heavily tarnished brass. This is the parts cleaner I used to remove lacquer and the tarnish. All I did was soak the brass for a day or two (stubborn lacquer/tarnish may take days of soaking) in the parts cleaner and use a soft bristle brush to scrub them and wipe them off. I then use compressed air to blow out the parts cleaner from under the guard brass wire wraps, hub spider fingers and rivets. You're lucky you live in the area. Fleet farm sells it in 1-gallon and 5-gallon containers. I bought the 5-gallon container and a plastic tub that can accommodate a 16" guard for soaking. I used a plastic garbage can lid that fits the top of the plastic tub lip. I think I bought it all at Fleet Farm. You could try soaking your blade in a small container with the parts cleaner and check it every a few hours as to the status of the tarnish removal. If you leave it in there to long, it will start taking the damaged plating down to the brass. Edited June 22, 2023 by Russ Huber

Hi Russ, would this also take the oxidation finish off a brass piece with dark oxide finish? Also do you know how to make an oxide finish? Thanks
Jim Roadt
I have seen oil cups filled with grease and a brass plunger before....there is not a hole for a plunger in this cap Should this little cup for Marelli be filled with oil and have spring and wick?
