Kyle Shelstad Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 What is the best way to remove thos oscillating stop knob without destroying it? Quote
Anthony Lindsey Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Generally you simply unscrew it but let someone else chime in on that model. Lefty loosey. Quote
Christian Kasprzyk Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 You will have to let me know if that works because I have one like it and unscrewing, pulling and everything else could not get it off. Been trying to find a way for quite some time. Quote
Tom Zapf Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 THERE ARE SEVERAL TYPES 1= SCREW IN (LOOK DOWN THE TOP OF THE KNOB...DO YOU SEE A SCREW HEAD?) SOME KNOBS HAVE A METAL SCREW EMBEDDED IN THE BASE OF THE KNOB POINTING STRAIGHT DOWN... BUT THIS ISNT COMMON ANY MORE 2= PRESS-ON...THE KNOB INNER DIAMETER WILL HAVE BUMPS TO GRAB THE TOP OF THE OSCILLATING GEAR SHAFT TO PULL IT UP AND DOWN. YOU HAVE TO PULL HARD TO GET IT OFF (AND THE OSCILLATING HOUSING CAP IS PLASTIC SO YOU RISK BREAKING THE COVER OFF) 3= SLOTTED SNAP ON, YOU HAVE TO LOOK THROUGH THE COOLING VENTS IN THE BACK OF THE MOTOR TO THE BASE OF YOUR PLASTIC KNOB **IF YOU SEE SLOTS SEE A) BELOW ** IF YOU SEE SLOTS WITH A SPRING RING SEE B) BELOW A- INSERT A VERY SMALL SLENDER SCREWDRIVER THEOUGH THE COOLING SLOT TO OPEN THE KNOB SLOT A BIT WHILE PULLING THE KNOB UP B- INSERT A VERY SMALL SLENDER SCREWDRIVER TO OPEN THE SLOT AND EXTEND THE ROUND SPRING CLIP WHILE PULLING UP ON THE KNOB GOOD LUCK WITH IT! Kyle Shelstad Posted July 11, 2024 Author Posted July 11, 2024 (edited) Thanks Tom, this one I have has neither slots or screw it's the pressed on one, would applying a small amount of heat aid the pulling it off say like using a hair dryer? Edited July 11, 2024 by Kyle Shelstad spelling error Quote
Tom Zapf Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 TRY A LITTLE BIT OF PENETRATING OIL (PB BLASTER) DOWN THE KNOB OPENING AND LET IT SIT FOR A BIT..PLASTIC CAN BE PORUS SO THAT MIGHT HELP. CROOK TWO FINGERS UNDER IT AT THE FLARED TOP AND PULL ..IF SOMEONE DIDNT GLUE IT ON , IT SHOULD SOME OFF Quote
Bejon A. Boranian Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 These are 2 methods that have gotten me through many a Galaxy/ Lasko/ etc. Oscillating fans back in the day. ... Most oscillators I've dealt with had the following: Screw type oscillation knob -OR- Clip/ pressure fit type. ... The following methods have given me access to the motor: METHOD #1: (For use on both Screw type oscillation knob and Clip/pressure fit type.) Take off the cages, blade, and front motor cover. Then, unscrew the rear motor "shell" so that it sits loose. Now, depending on which way the oscillation is facing, you should be able to "lift" the motor shell up against the top of the oscillation knob at an angle, about half of the knob should now be in the motor shell and the other half outside still. With your thumbs, push and work the top of the oscillation knob completely through and then the motor shell will be free to take off. You can now access the motor. (Note: this method does NOT remove oscillation knob) ... METHOD #2: (use on clip/ pressure fit type ONLY) Take off just the cages and blade. Put both feet on the motor shell With hands hook/grasp the oscillation knob and pull straight up with all your might... (while resisting the pull force with both feet). ...Important: (see below) -Note: Both me and the fan went flying in opposite directions after... METHOD #2 is kinda difficult, but it got the oscillation knob off and is my go-to method for stubborn oscillation knobs to this day. ... A last resort "Nuclear" Method is to: Enlarge the oscillation knob opening -Or- Sand/ reduce the oscillation knob's top diameter. (Last resort method only, as this will modify the fans original structure.) Quote
Kyle Shelstad Posted July 12, 2024 Author Posted July 12, 2024 i got it off i used a wrench like a wheel puller and it came right out. Quote

Tom Zapf Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 OK GLAD SOMETHING WORKED FOR YOU WITHOUT DAMAGE! PLASTIC IS TOUGH BUT NOT INDESTRUCTIBLE Quote
