David Kilnapp
Friends: I'm working on a 16 inch Century for my young friend, Jack. He bought it at Tom Zapf's fan meet. It's a model 261. This fan was in very tough shape. It ran fine on three speeds but was very rusty and in great need of some TLC. You can see that I've made some good progress thus far replacing the headwire with Tony Clayton's Emerson 3 conductor wire (so NICE to work with)! Here's my question. It seems like there must be a part missing from the neck area. The neck rotates freely on the base by means of an assembly inside the top of the base (with ball bearings). This was frozen in place when Jack brought me the fan. You can see how an outer and inner slot line up when I rotate the fan on the base. Also, It seems that there should be some kind of housing around the part of the unpainted part of the fan. Is there something missing around this part of the fan? Is there something that fits in that slot to keep the fan from rotating on the base? Perhaps someone might chime in with some knowledge of this model to fill in the gaps in my understanding. I would be grateful for input. I've never worked on this particular Century model. It runs perfectly well on three speeds.
Russ Huber
David, I wish I could be of more help. I have passed on all opportunities to purchase on these fans, so I have never dug into one. There are 5 catalogues in the gallery section, but I can't guarantee they will be of much help. Hopefully someone will come out of the woodwork that knows.
