John Landstrom
I have an Emerson 79746 that came without a motor tag. I’ve ordered a new one from Don. My question is this: The tag comes flat. What’s your technique for shaping it to the round motor housing ? I’m assuming that’s done prior to attaching it. I have the original (puny) drive screws that were still in the motor housing (Interesting in itself) and plan to reuse them. Any help, tips, techniques are appreciated. Dave Hoatson
I’ve never tried it, but maybe you can get a roller tool and set the rollers to curve the tag. I have one of these. Or, lay a piece of PVC pipe on the table, put the tag on top, and press down with your hands while rolling it back and forth.
John Landstrom
Tool is too much darn $$. Interesting idea on the pipe. Have some of that laying around. Think I’ll give that a try. It’ll be a while as it’s being made.
Mark Behrend
It should be flexible enough where you don’t need to roll it. Get some brass pins and insert into tag and housing , Put a cloth on your workbench so you don’t scratch the tag and housing. A small chisel and hammer will work with bending over the pins while keeping pressure on the pin your bending over. It should form naturally. It’s kind of hard to explain but easier if the stator isn’t in the housing yet.
John Landstrom
Thanks for the comment Mark. I saved the drive original screws hoping to reuse them. (Even though there was no tag on the motor the drive screws were still there)
Paul Carmody
I would just hold it down against the housing with my fingers, then start the screws going back and forth while tightening.Unless it starts distorting. I had took one off a Westinghouse the other day and it still had spring. It was more straight than curved once the screws were removed. It will work or it won’t.
