John Landstrom
I’m asking this again in a separate posting. I’m learning not to group questions as it seems when there are many replies people tend to think all questions have been answered. Not the case. I have a 79646 that has two (1/4” - approx) round channels in each end cap on the motor. (Front and rear) One of the two channels is threaded and has a small threaded brass plug that threads into the end of the channel. The other channel has a small brass eyelet pushed into it that allows for oil to be dripped into it. (I’m assuming) When cleaning the motor I removed the packing material (pictured) and am wondering what people have used as a replacement. 3/8” wick? Something else? Note: the top material pictured came out of the oil channel hole, the second (black) material was stuffed into the front cover around the rotor shaft. (Normal or just something to help prevent leakage?) Advice is appreciated on successful replacements.

John Landstrom
Thanks Russ. So, considering the holes are about 1/4”, would you suggest the 3/16” to allow for expansion when oil is added, or 1/4”? Also, what density would you recommend? Oh, how do these differ from the wicks you can buy for the oiler cups; like the ones used in a GE AOU?
Russ Huber
It has been years since I ordered from Duro-felt, good to see they are still around. I am getting short. I see their prices have gone up. Check the web and ebay for other sources. If it is a 1/4" channel, feel free to jam 1/4" felt cord in the hole. It will suck up the oil. 🙂 You can also wad up felt cord for larger cast in motor housing oil reservoir cavities.
