Greg Calmly Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 I was cleaning my grandparents Fasco ceiling fan (an early 80's hugger) and somehow even with me being careful I just dusted the motor housing and after I was done putting it all together after polishing and what-not, the bearings or something makes a scraping sound. They dont know about the noise, and its not my fan, so if anyone knows what it is or what oil I can use (if that helps idk) or anything lemme know. (I want to see if I can fix it before they notice, they rarely ever use the fan or lights) I just dont want to buy gear and bearing pullers if its not really neccessary. Heres a video displaying the sound. Thanks! IMG_7728.mov Quote
Christian Kasprzyk Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 I have heard some people say WD-40 but I have grown fond of just using zoom spout oiler for everything. Of course any oiling is a temporary fix. I would recommend checking that nothing inside is scraping even though it sounds like bearings. If that doesn't work move to oil and then after that the bearings would probably need replacement. Quote
Greg Calmly Posted July 31, 2024 Author Posted July 31, 2024 Alright that works out. Im a box fan collector and already have the 3 in 1 blue can and zoomspout and knowledge just wasnt sure if it could all be applied to ceiling fans. Not saying it can, but like box fans use shaded pole motors (FTMP) and sleeve bearings. Anyways, whenever I get to doing it because I dont really want them to notice they'd have to be not home then ill let you know what happens. Shouldn't be anything serious, it was just a cleaning and it was 100% fine before. Quote
Christian Kasprzyk Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Sounds good, hope it works out! I hate it when I take something apart and then it’s never the same after, hopefully you can get this back to normal! Quote
