Allen Bennett Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Got a circa 1912 Emerson 16648. It has a rewound speed coil with readings of .07, 1.7, & 2.4 across the three leads. I’ve tried everything different connection I can think of to get the fan to run at slow, med and high, but each one makes the fan run on high. Anyone have a drawing of the correct wiring? thanks. Allen Bennett Posted August 31, 2024 Author Posted August 31, 2024 I think I may have confirmation that the wiring is not the problem. Tom Newcity rewound the speed coil, and we discussed the effects on the motor using the stamped steel hub fan blade that Jerry Bravi made for me compared to the original cast iron hub fan blade. I used a digital tachometer and found that I may indeed have three speeds, but the differences are so small that you can't hear the differences. LOW = 1,710 RPM, MED = 1,720, HIGH = 1,730. I'm inclined to think that the weight and/or the pitch of the fan blades on the steel hub are not creating enough drag on the motor to allow for discernable speed differences. If anyone has the RPM specs for the three speeds on the 16648, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Quote
Steve Sherwood Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Does it have the voltage on the ID tag? If is 105 or 110, check your line voltage at the outlet. You might be running the fan at 120volts or more. That can cause the fan to run fast on low and medium speeds. 2 Quote
