Jim Roadt Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 1928 ( I believe) Star-Rite oscillator came in old ivory, black and nickel. Does not currently oscillate or possibly I don't know how to turn it on. I like the ivory color, however, their "special finish that will not chip or rust " apparently does not last 96 years. I'm deciding between just cleaning it up or find that color. 2 Quote
Jim Roadt Posted September 5, 2024 Author Posted September 5, 2024 Is there a way to turn on and off the oscillation? Or is it supposed to be on when the fan is on? Quote

On some fans, the arm attaches at different points to the disc below the gearbox. A center connection stops oscillation. Other holes toward the perimeter create more sweep, more oscillation. I don’t know if this fan has those varied connection points. Quote

Mike Morris Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 (edited) Mine does have a engagement knob on top of the gearbox, not seeing it on yours. Maybe yours is the Starite version of a continuous oscillator? Looks fairly similar to mine, so there is a good chance there is a nut on the underside of the oscillation disc. That nut may just need to be snugged up a bit, it occasionally comes loose on mine. Edited September 6, 2024 by Mike Morris Quote
Russ Huber Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 One of two things. Some form of engage and disengage mechanism on the gearbox, or the linkage can be moved on the oscillator wheel from center to an outside position for sweep and no sweep. Quote
Jim Roadt Posted September 7, 2024 Author Posted September 7, 2024 Thought that might be some push button switch....nope 1 Quote
Russ Huber Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 (edited) That be a 'continuous' oscillator, unless of course something in the gear train fails and it stops oscillating. 🙂 Edited September 7, 2024 by Russ Huber 2 Quote
Jim Roadt Posted September 7, 2024 Author Posted September 7, 2024 Thanks. cracked it open all gears there, however, long worm gear does not engage other two. I will leave it be and enjoy the look Quote
