That motor is never coming apart

It is good to know you remained calm and diligent through your painstaking blade removal. I just got mine today. Trust me, yours was the best bang for your buck. Not only was my blade stuck, but the hexed set screw was also chewed to $hit and I managed to weasel it out. I have guard repair and wire replacements; I have messaged Donald Coleman (still with us) for both front banner and rear motor instruction repops.

The good news. It is the first-generation Marathon Super Air Screws and everything is there......AND the motor is sound. I AM going to pop the cap on my motor to study it.  Nothing says you have to pop the end bell on yours. 🙂

decided not to crack it open until....when is cover completely on shaft does not turn, slightly off turns freely and I  noticed cord will need to be replaced so in I go.  Remove 4 screws holding switch plate on ( not great access) remove pull chain cover and back cover .  Now it spins freely.  I may leave front cover on ( it is not budging with tapping on shaft.  The stator is never coming out nor will it be attempted.  Bearing on rear housing looks and feels good.  Not sure why it was binding up.  I hope it will magically align properly when I replace the cord and reassemble...might as well paint it.20240922_190043.thumb.jpg.b7a552a8499cf3f0c0f0a57bbbb5f938.jpg20240922_190140.thumb.jpg.aece248b96a54b6219b6b682eaaa0235.jpg20240922_190146.thumb.jpg.bf297f5ef069f04e4f52f26599d28a00.jpg20240922_190202.thumb.jpg.6b81eb8175b328eb59bc0f388b5cd077.jpg

That looks great, Jim.  Hell, I like it better as is without the cast rear housing.

FWIW....Don't get mad at me, but if you want to make that motor mount pop even more? You just remove the mount and mask off those two groove channels with the fading factory red in them and rattle can them with some fresh fire engine red. Or, if you have a steady hand, small paint brush. 🙂

Sorry, don't feel worse, my bad, it looks great. Probably just the angle of the photograph.

Jim,

Listen to the motor with a malfunctioning centrifugal switch on the beginning of the YouTube video. The motor on the YouTube video has a pulley and he gave it a spin and off it went.  Kind of sounds like your motor on your video. It could be something to do with your centrifugal switch not engaging the start windings.

That is exactly what mine sounds like.   Cleaned the contact with 1200 sandpaper and....it's alive...

Thanks Russ

I still don't get why you didn't risk losing a hand giving that a spin Jim. Regardless, you got it going again.

Ya, I am a little disappointed myself. No pain, no gain.  And check out those fine red lines in the motor mount indentations. It was all in the angle of your first image that threw me off.

You can add a little more pazazz with some new bead chain and pull chain knob. That fan is an easy One Hunert...Thou now. 🙂

Jim,

A video for the future that can spare you all that contact cleaning mumbo jumbo. 🙂

I did spin start with same result... a non circulating  loud buzzing shiny thing.  After cleaning contact it works.  Slightly unsettling spinning that blade to start it,  like one of the Wright brothers
