Russ Huber
If there was a chance to see an image of the first Shedd/Weyant vane, one of these libraries in the link has the 1901 book that may have the image. Steve Rockwell
So Russ, You are after an image of the Pre-"Comfort" fans of 1901, is that a correct assumption? The journals state that Shedd first offered the (three-vane) Comfort in 1902, and that for 1901 "the company bought fans in the open market and equipped them with its oscillating devices, but for the season now opening [1902] they have complete equipment of their own"... 1903 is a different beast altogether, but now, after consideration, I want to be certain what you hope or expect might be seen out of that volume... Shedd Electric and Manufacturing incorporated Sep 1901, by which time the Pan-Am was already well under way... Now, they obviously could have been making units prior to organizing, but as of Mar 1901 they are not listed among expected exhibitors... All this above in order to clarify expectations, prior to trying to obtain the book...

There were no (very doubtful) Shedd attachable vanes to open market fans being constructed until between the time Shedd Electric got on the map in Sept. and Weyant dumped Sittmann & Pitt early October of 01. The Shedd/Weyant 1901 vanes would have been seen at the Pan American Exposition in the manufacturer's building but a few months/weeks before the 01-exposition closure. Russ Huber
"So Russ, You are after an image of the Pre-"Comfort" fans of 1901, is that a correct assumption?" Yes, this image would be having to be late fall early winter inside the manufacturer's building. Shedd & Weyant would have only had a limited number of these fan vanes based on the short manufacture time span.
