Jim Roadt
Just found this oscillating Diehl. Could not resist the price and close to home. Maybe I can practice Japan or Charleston Green with brass blades Currently runs but does not oscillate. The arm is not attached Came apart very easily and stator pops right off
Jim Roadt
Did not even notice a tag on it until after pulling it out of the purple power cat G12512 3 speed
Jim Roadt
I assume oscillating arm screws into that small wheel below the gear box ( pictured ) Is there any special screw or just one that fits
Jim Henderson
What a "Diehl" Better put on another pot of coffee. You're gonna be there a while. Probably a shoulder screw that fits the threads.
Jim Roadt
Any idea how to remove this last gear attached to oscillating wheel Unless that is the sheared off set screw I am pointing to I have no idea. otherwise might have to work around it

Stan Adams
Those are pinned on, I never take them off. The pin is driven in & then pinged into place.

John Nyman
Mine is a later model, in as-found condition but it it a very pleasant runner...it has a set screw on the disk oscillator so I'd guess yours was damaged? The custom philips head came with it...guessing it's not original.
Lane Shirey
As I recall that knurled thumbnut on the bottom of the oscillator wheel has a tiny set screw. Then it unscrews. The osc arm goes between the nut and wheel. When the tension is adjusted right, when you twist the knurled nut in one direction, it adjusts the oscillating swing arc. Inside the osc wheel, there’s a ratchet wheel and a very tiny ball bearing and spring so be careful if you take it apart. hope that helps. It does have set screw which I removed and small knurled wheel does not budge. It does make sense for arm to go in between that and gear, however it sure lines up nice to attach to the bottom of that wheel . I cant tell on pictures from the thread Russ sent for sure
Jim Roadt
I elected Pontypool I have tried black dragon with little success and too cold for rattle can Applied with brush kind of dabbing it on and let gravity take over. Smaller pieces dipped directly in. Some bubbles occur and can be dabbed out with wet edge. Difficult to tell on pics but looks pretty good. Still not as good as original Japan or a skilled painter using anything. I will let it set for a few days then cook in Electric smoker. Very little used to do one fan. Not very good for any ribbed project.

Jim Roadt
after a couple of hours of self leveling it looks pretty good . That is a piece of earplug sticking out to protect bearings and threads
John Nyman
I guess this paint is pretty slow drying...I'd be dubious about this working but the results do speak for themselves. I assume you apply it pretty darn thick to allow it to flow and catch the bubbles along the way. I'm wondering just how long you have before it gets too tacky to work with, but I guess it depends on temps and humidity...does it pool at the lowest point or just drip off? A million questions but I'm guessing that doing it a few times kinda teaches you as you go...
Patrick Ray
That pontypool is looking real good Jim! After baking the finish, is it pretty much fully cured and ready to handle/reassemble?

It is dry to handle after a day or two I will cook it 250 ish at least five hours. In the past it has turned out pretty nice and very durable. Black dragon never set

The cast motor parts are silky smooth and will not require anything
Richard Daugird
Disappointed the Black Dragon didn't work, I had high hopes for it. I will probably try it anyway as we have different weather down here.

Jim Roadt
Before cooking 7 hours at 300 degrees make sure ALL grease is removed from gear box. If any is left it will bubble over and drip on parts below and you will have to start over. ( so I have been told ) This is what it would look like if that happened and you had to strip it down and do another coat....for demonstration purposes only! Jim Roadt
Still not sure where oscillating arm goes. In between gear box and wheel or bottom of wheel ?
