Chris Thayer
I found a GE "TV Fan" on the side of the road the other day, visually it's in great shape but the bearing seems to be gummed up. I've tried oiling everywhere I can, I even drilled a small lubrication hole. The shaft doesn't spin freely, but if I stick it in my drill chuck it will move. Is there a way to get to the bearing to clean it up (or replace it) without destroying the whole thing?
Tom Zapf
CHRIS HARDING HAD AN INSTRUCTIONAL BACK A LITTLE WAYS ON THESE RUBBER MOUNT FANS. IF YOU TAKE 2 SMALL SCREWDRIVERS ON EACH SIDE OF THE LOGO CAP YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO POP IT OFF. THERE "SHOULD" BE A FELT WICKING (MAYBE) DEPENDING ON THE YEAR. IF NOT CHRIS ADVISES GOING AROUND FRONT. SPRAY SOME WD40 WITH THE STRAW IN TO THE HOLE IN THE CENTER OF THE RUBBER CAP AND LET IT SIT FOR A BITAND TRY TO POP THE BLADE AND RUBBER MOUNT OFF TOGETHER. THE CAP AREA TO THE REAR SHOULD HAVE A C-CLIP ON THE BACK OF THE SHAFT IF THIS GENERATION HAS IT. YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO SLIDE THE WHOLE SHAFT & BLADE ASSEMBLY OUT. CLEAN IT AND OIL IT FROM THE FRONT ITS BEEN YEARS SINCE I PLAYED WITH ONE OF THESE
