James Keeton Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 After routine cleaning and lubrication fan rpm became erratic, slowing almost to a stop then obtaining normal rpm for speed selection. Bushing in front may be spinning in the housing. Bushing noise is consistent with typical worn bushing. I’m 75 and have known and cared for this fan since a child. The fan had been operating normally this summer with long running intervals. I have never heard this particular noise previously. Question, is the fan blade pressed on the motor shaft? Removing the set screw does not free the fan on the shaft. I do not know the disassembly procedure. I do not know a source for replacement bushings. However, I am skilled from a long professional career in weapon locating radars. Any help you can offer this freshly minted new member is greatly appreciated. Quote
Stan Adams Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 The first thing I would do is replace the capacitor in the base. Those are famous for doing weird things like slowing way down, sometimes after hours of running, making weird sounds through the blades, etc. My neighbor across the street had one that started running backwards. It is that little round tank in the base. Quote
Andrew Block Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 Those generally don't wear out very often. I agree with Stan, capacitors do weird things to Hunter's. Mine started running backwards when the cap died. Quote
