Russ Huber Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 (edited) The Eck "Ming" blade appears in the Electrical Record editions 1917-1924 as an OPTIONAL purchase to the consumer in electrical trade. It appears Eck Dynamo was trying to capitalize on marketing the blade not only on their fans, but at same time an option to the consumer to place on other fan motors to reduce blade noise. It is only seen on 12" models in 1917-18 in the odd blade configuration. Starting in 1919 it is now offered only on the Eck DC model in a new pizza wing "symmetrical" option. 1920-24 it is offered (possibly optional) on both AC and DC 16" models. The success of the "ming" blade I think speaks for itself. How many have surfaced? 1917. Edited December 29, 2024 by Russ Huber 1 Quote
Martin Carena-Santiago Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Thank you for the wealth of information on these unique blades. I can't say that I've ever seen or heard of a ming blade on a non-Eck fan, although maybe someone has one? Interesting that they chose such wildly different designs for the 12" and 16" sizes, you'd think they would have tried to keep at least some similarity between the two. Quote
Russ Huber Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 1917-24 consecutive Electrical Record editions offer the Eck Ming blade individually. The 1917 Electrical Record does not have the alphabetical arranged market offerings as the 1918+ editions offered. However, it is clearly stated in the Ming introduction article it is not exclusive to the Eck fans seen below. It appears Wallace left the Eck Dynamo CEO position at some time 1923-25. I am not sure if Eck offered fan motors early 25 or not. Quote
Steve Rockwell Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 (edited) "Starting in 1919 it is now offered only on the Eck DC model in a new pizza wing "symmetrical" option." So it's the third iteration of James Irving's patented design, each substantially different in appearance but possessing the same characteristic offset blades... The NEW symmetrical wings used ONLY on 16" direct current fans in 1919. On 16" AC OR DC models starting 1920. Edited December 30, 2024 by Russ Huber Quote
