David Kilnapp Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) Hello friends: I received a 1900 cake in the mail today which you can see below. This was from an on-line live auction. The final cost with shipping and so forth was around $400, which in retrospect wasn't a steal (no cage or struts and now in need of repairs). I cleaned up the blade and surprisingly, it's made of steel. Now I'm wondering if the blade was original to the fan? What are your thoughts? One more thing, when I removed the brass screw on top of the nose behind the oil slingee, there was a ball bearing in the hole riding on the spindle. After talking with Darryl Hudson and pulling the spindle out (below), a prior owner had put that in to stabilize a badly worn spindle (and bearing too). So those will be going to Darryl for replacement, then on to Rick Powell for japanning. Edited December 31, 2024 by David Kilnapp Quote
Michael Rathberger Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 The short hub,as Nick said, indicates Jandus. I did not see that in the fan either as it was in my watch list. Quote
David Kilnapp Posted December 31, 2024 Author Posted December 31, 2024 I guess I'll be selling the Jandus blade and looking for a 1900 cake blade. Quote
James Lawson Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I'd be willing to bet somebody needs that Jandus blade, so you shouldn't have any trouble selling it to help offset the cost of the restoration. Hopefully the GE blade won't be as difficult to find compared to most other makes of that vintage. Quote
