Tony Clayton Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Is anyone else experiencing the worst service ever with the USPS? I'm tired of paying for 3 day service that takes 7-14 days. 2 2 Quote
Edward Kowalke Posted February 9 Posted February 9 It has been terrible the last year or so. I have had a number of incoming pkgs. get to Indianapolis, IN. on the way to Michigan only to be sent to North/South Carolina. I rarely use Priority Since the change to ground advantage. The discounted rates are so much cheaper for the ground advantage and the transit time is pretty much the same as Priority. Quote
James Lawson Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Besides packages being late, I'm doing good to get my own mail! I get my neighbors' mail from next door, from down the street, and even from two or three streets over! Whereas I always give the mail to its rightful owner, I've had several items of mine that have never arrived, which tells me that others likely throw anything that's misdelivered into the trash. Complaints to the postmaster do absolutely nothing. Quote
Tony Clayton Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 Sad but true James. I have give up complaining to them. Best recourse I have found is file a claim online. They will either pay it or make them go look for it. To send it on the way. 1 Quote
David Kilnapp Posted February 10 Posted February 10 I hear you, Tony. There are problem areas in the country that are well known. One is near Atlanta, GA. I'm told that the local congressman has even been involved to try and resolve the issue. I haven't had any issues with USPS other than that area, usually when I'm getting something from someone in that area, not when I'm shipping to that area. Quote
Tony Clayton Posted February 10 Author Posted February 10 I sent wire to different states Monday. They are both still sitting in VA. today. Quote
Michael Rathberger Posted February 10 Posted February 10 As Edward said, anything coming through Indy can get routed all over. Last shipped item hit Indy from the East Coast, went to far northern Illinois then back to Gary and finally to me. Should have gone from Indy to Gary direct. 1 Quote
Bryan Eshenbaugh Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Thank you for Saying it! I have been thinking it for a long time! Haha! Seems like you should get a refund if you pay for a 3 day delivery and it arrives in 6 days. But what do I know? 1 Quote
Doug Wendel Posted February 10 Posted February 10 I avoid shipping with USPS when possible. They haven't ever permanently lost my stuff, but I've had it disappear from tracking and then just show up a few weeks later. I've been really happy with FEDEX home delivery or FEDEX ground for my fan-related shipping. Cheaper, faster, better, and you can always log-in to see where your package is. 1 Quote

He received a lot of TV face time for grilling the post master at hearings in the past year or so. He is also up for the re-election next year. The sorting center is in Palmetto, which is just (maybe 30 miles) south of Atlanta. Georgia had/may still have some of the worst delays of any state in the U.S. Quote
Marc Sova Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Yeah man….they been sucking lately big time. Prolly gonna ask to raise postage with the excuse that they need it to pay for more people Quote
Stan Adams Posted February 12 Posted February 12 The news did a long series on the problems at the Houston sorting center. Politicians finally got involved, but doesn't appear a lot has changed. The postal service closed down the downtown post office & sorting center & sold it off for an entertainment venue ($$$). Things have been horrible ever since. Quote

Poor Darryl has had tons of issues with them as have I. Getting things TO Darryl usually isn't a problem but getting things FROM Darryl can sit in that sorting center near Atlanta for a week. Tracking is useless. The local Congressman has been informed and told that the "fix" is underway....to no avail. It's shameful. Quote

I had one package that was supposed to be shipped lost from that area. I say let the market decide its fate once and for all. Competition breeds hard working people. That's the thing, I learned, about tracking numbers -- they don't do much good if people forget to scan them. And Priority Mail service is a must. A couple of years ago, I mailed a package, obtained a tracking number without priority mail (cheaper shipping option) and it fell into a postal black hole for 10 days en route from Atlanta to the Florida/Georgia line. Once it crossed into and arrived in Florida, it was like a bureaucratic magic wand waved, a brand new day began and everything worked wonderfully. Online tracking became visible and the box traveled quickly along its postal route to the recipient (a.k.a. Somebody remembered to scan the box). A postal worker guessed that perhaps an Atlanta individual left the box on the back of a USPS tractor trailer where it sat unscanned until somebody found it. Not that priority mail is any great guarantee, but I've avoided package loss through that service. Quote
Robert Todd Posted March 4 Posted March 4 My bank sent me my monthly statement on February 2nd. I got it on February 10th. I took 9 days for them to deliver my bank statement. Oh, I forgot to mention, the post office is NEXT DOOR to the bank. 1 Quote

Nicholas Denney Posted March 8 Posted March 8 If you have bad service with USPS, ship from another branch or have someone local receive your packages. Ive done the former many times. Strikes and walk-outs are also common; I have witnessed 3 locally in the last 5 years. This can delay mail 2-3 days before they have 'emergency' employees come in, usually from the nearest larger city branch. Quote
James Lawson Posted March 8 Posted March 8 We just checked the tracking for a package my wife was expecting earlier this week. It was shipped last Thursday with Priority Mail. The package has gone from Cleveland, OH to Washington, DC to Jersey City, NJ to Louisville, KY and it's now in Aurora, CO. Cleveland, OH to Baltimore, MD should have taken two days. Three at the most. Quote
David Allen Posted March 8 Posted March 8 I've been experiencing serious delays with anything shipped USPS. The worst is "ground advantage" which is typically taking 7 to 10 days. They often mark it "delivered" on day 5 before it is delivered. In those cases I claim it was not delivered; then it magically appears days late with no apology nor discount. 1 Quote

Order something from prime and it's there next day or 2 days... 2 Quote
