Louis Luu Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Finally got a chance to add this to my collection. Seems most of my fan are found on a bed truck. Too bad they did not make a 16 inch Kidney fan. Quote

Steve Rockwell Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 (edited) Louis' tag reads [edit:should] 146079. Some of them were also stamped Q3, some not..... Correction: It may not carry the 146079 designation either, just serial number, volts & cycles... Edited July 11, 2023 by Steve Rockwell Quote
Steve Rockwell Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 (edited) Absolutely fits in the range of known (to me) 16-inch collar residence fans... As for the kidney question, depends what you consider to be a kidney fan... Personally, I prefer the version with the handle cast in the frame, but "kidney fan" often seems to refer to the earlier loops without handle. I have never seen one a kidney residence in 16-inch size though... In the recent AntiqueFanParts Don Eckerson Sale there was a collar fan with a handle-- it disappeared from the listing, apparently denoting sale. Though the handle appears to have been from a pre-payment fan (due to its being stamped with a number) there were, for a very brief time it appears, collar fan motor frames which were tapped to accommodate such a handle, and that I believe is a true rarity... Jim Henderson Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 I believe kidney oscillator refers to the shape of the gearbox regardless of whether the fan has a handle or not. 1 Quote

I will add, the Electrical Record prints what the manufacturer sends to them. The ticket would be finding 1914 electrical trade actually supporting them on the market. Images would be nice along with that. Quote

I was the one that bought that fan from Chad, where did the first picture come from? I believe Louis's 12 inch 6 wing also had the holes to have a handle. Quote
Steve Rockwell Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 (edited) Congratulations on your purchase. What do you think about the pre-payment-fan-handle theory? That's a GE photo. You're correct about Louis' fan being drilled and tapped, though that is a surprising circumstance for such an early example -- which came from the beginning the collar production line, low serial number 919458. That fan is also surprising for being a first batch residence fan, but with handle holes !!?!... The factory photo I posted carried number 934220 compared with your 934208 in Chad's image, and it makes sense they are close to each other, whereas Louis' is something of an anomaly... At present, these three are the only tapped fans of which I'm aware; 934220 is a standard 4-wing GE 75423, and it will be interesting to learn whether your fan is a 78777 slow motor residence in fact.....
