When did GE start painting the background on their motor tags and badges?  Pictured 8" GE not all brass.

You men when they switched from an oxide finish to paint? I don't know exactly. That's a good question for Kim Frank!

1915 models were the first to have the cage badge background blackened.   Prior to that most of the GE brass was finished in a "dipped and lacquered" finish, (not polished)

Go for it, Bobby. When you have embossed letters and numbers like that tag, painting background and removing the paint from the raised areas is a cake walk. I just got done with an Emerson teens long tag with little to no raised areas. A magnifying light, sharp tip exact-o, and I said my prayers before I went at it. 🙂
