Tim Babcock Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 I have a friend who does not live near me. She bought a Emerson Jr. fan that was running. She said it ran fine for about two months. Now she gets no hum or anthing out of the fan. I told her to try a bit of up pressure on the switch and move it a bit back and forth as these type of switches can get a bit finicky. She has not gotten back to me on that but, if that is not it what are some other issues that could cause this? I can have her ship me the fan but that is so expensive. Thanks for any ideas. Quote
David Kilnapp Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 Where does your friend live? I ask this because there are good folks in the AFCA in most every state and one might be near your friend who might be willing to diagnose the issue. Quote
Steve Stephens Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 (edited) During a Fanfair trip I saw this GE in an antiques mall in the Midwest and plugged it in to find that it did not run. I think it was $95 which was a good price and the fan looked original. I put it back then reconsidered and bought it. The problem it turned out was a power cord wire that had come off of a terminal under the base. After putting the thumbscrew back tightly the fan worked great. I added the felt on the base and cleaned the original paint and added a new power cord. An Emerson Jr. is very simple fan so hopefully the problem is as simple as a broken or disconnected wire. Tim Babcock Posted August 9, 2023 Author Posted August 9, 2023 The fan she said had new wire on it. So I guess someone could have not tightened it down and it popped off. I hate to have her take the bottom cover off. If someone is not a bit experienced in electoral. Quote
Tim Babcock Posted August 10, 2023 Author Posted August 10, 2023 She said the can hear a faint hum when she turns it on. I told her to not leave it on like that for more than about 30 seconds at most. But to turn it on and spin the blade to see if it will start. It that works then maybe the starer coil on the head? I also asked to make sure the blade spins easy when no power to it. She said she has run it for two months and it was working great. I may see if she can ship it to me so I can have it in hand to look at. Quote
Tim Babcock Posted August 11, 2023 Author Posted August 11, 2023 So she said with the fan on or off the fan blade does not spin easy. Could be an oil issue. Quote
Tim Babcock Posted August 12, 2023 Author Posted August 12, 2023 I told her to buy one of the Zero oil bottles with the oil in it and drip oil into the oiler holes. I have not heard back yet. Quote
