GE speed coil in motor windings

Recommended Posts

I picked up a GE auu v2 that has the speed coil in with the motor windings not in the base. It gets pretty warm running on high but not as bad on low. Was wondering if anyone knew if this is normal.
Thanks Danny

The tapped winding shaded pole is somewhat of an oddity to me, but rest assured, shaded poles can run and survive at 160 degrees F., or just a little too hot to keep your hand on. If they get much hotter than that, and the windings are damaged or the insulation is compromised, there is a high likelihood of an emanation of smoke and/or sparks as the motor dies.

Thanks Mark. Something new for me. I’ve never had one like this. The amps are good on high but are reading a little high on medium and low. Thanks for the info.
