The steel shaft seen in the picture is 1/2" diameter. The narrow rubber grommet has a 1/2"diameter hole.  The protruding shoulder on the cast flower mounting bolt is same diameter. After I shave off half of the rubber grommet as seen in the images, I snugged it on to the shoulder of the cast flower. You will have to add a little lubricant to the outside rubber surface when you tighten down the cast flower bolts to snug the motor in the trunnion. I did this after noticing some finish damage on the inside of the cast flower bolts due to snugging them down.

Great fix Russ, never understood why it was metal on metal
