Christopher Dickey
Howdy, I picked up a 42x548 which the seller shipped incorrectly resulting in a shattered gearbox cover and lower gearbox. I got a new cover and rear motor housing, but now the task is to disassemble the old one. I got all the screws out, blades off etc and just have the bare housing, but nothing will budge. Do the gears have to come out first? I am pretty new to this, so I know I'm missing something obvious.
Bill Dunlap
The horrors of pot metal. Don't force anything.
Christopher Dickey
I got it. I had to force it a bit. Fortunately, the part that I had to force is what I was replacing. It took me using a punch and a small soft-hammer/mallet. Apparently the pot metal blooms and swells over time.
