Doug Wendel Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 I haven’t seen Megger insulation testers discussed on the forum and was wondering from the motor experts what I should know and how to best get a good inexpensive one McComas? Fanum? Buehler? Quote
Ben Guegain Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 I have one this one I got from eBay for $80. Works great! Not totally necessary but nice to have. Quote
John McComas Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 I've got an antique crank one and a new electronic one, but I seldom ever use them. I usually just measure resistance from stator winding to motor case. You can also feel leakage by plugging power to stator and feeling the skin effect from case through your body to ground. If I feel the 60hz buzz, I reverse the stator leads, and usually clears up the skin effect. Then I wire fan with polarized plug, or add ground wire to case ... Good luck. 1 Quote

John McComas Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 C'mon, John!, why mustyou be such a buzzkill? Next time at Doc's I will set you up for feeling the skin effect on a 240 VAC fan. You might enjoy it. I know I would! 😇 Quote
