Alex Koh
I got curious and started peeling away at the cloth tape and now I don't know what to use as a replacement. Any suggestions on what is a safe option to use for insulation tape?
Dave McManaman
I use friction tape, sliced into thin strips overlapping as I cover the windings. Edited February 5, 2022 by Dave McManaman 1

Alex Koh
I looked further into this and decided to settle on cambric tape, its similar to friction tape but it is properly treated with varnish for electrical applications. Do one better. Varnish that stator with Sprayon EL600 Insulating Varnish, let dry, then wrap with 3M Friction Tape. Friction tape is the closest thing to what was originally used from the factory.
