Estate Sale Find Emerson 29648

Just happened to stop at an estate sale and there it sat. It's been several years since I've found one out in the wild. It runs beautifully. I assume it has been restored at some time?

Found in Kennesaw, GA

Brass rivets look to have been changed on the ID plate? Really nice fan!

One of your blade wings has the patented Parker blade stamping. Please post what the stamping states word for word when convenient for you.

If the wing stamping doesn't include the word "Improved" your fan dates no later than 27.  The wing stamping with the word "Improved" started either late fan motor season 1927, or the beginning of 1928.  The improved Parker wings were implemented with high probability between the years of 1926 and 1928. The "Improved" Parker stamping more than likely appeared in 28 being the issue date for the improved Parker blade patent was late season in Sept. of 27.

What is strange is the Emerson fan motor catalogues available dating 1928 and 1930 do not support a 29648 model. The 16" models listed are 73648 models. Maybe I missed something? The 1930 catalogue supports a 29646 model.

Yet, your 29648 fan and a few others like it exist. In 1931 Emerson dropped the brass wings for steel.

The Emerson monthly shared in Google books appear to have a 1924 cut off. If anyone out there have Emerson catalogues dating 1925-27, it sure would be appreciated to share them in the members only Emerson catalogue section.  There is a void of potential good information on the transition of desk fan components during these years.

That tag appears to have been masked over. Based on the head wire repair, my bet is on it was painted over.

So far I have seen 3 29648s with Improved Parkers, this is #4.

I edited above after reading your post. If there are but a handful of these 29648 anomalies with improved brass Parker wings, the 29648 may have been discontinued as early as 28. It may be helpful to see a 1927 Emerson fan motor catalogue.

Is it they came on it Russ or the blade got damaged & they were sold a new one? Emerson never trashed anything, so they could have been motors on the shelf or...? Since these were commercial grade, very possible. Like Geoff says, never say never.

I wish we would have gotten all of that Emerson literature we were promised back in the day.

Dan Morris is clearly stating he has a 29648 in the old website link below with an improved Parker blade with the old Parker blade stamp in it. This would date Dan's fan and improved Parker wing blade prior to the blade patent issue of Sept. of 27, or 1926-27 introduction to the market.

Emerson 29648 with Parker Improved style blades - Pre-1950 (Antique) - Antique Fan Collectors Association - AFCA Forums

"I am working on a Emerson 29648 that has the Parker improved style blades like found on the 73xxx model fans.  I don't recall seeing this before.  Did Emerson use the improved style blades on the later 29xxx models?" ~Dan Morris 1st post

"Mine are brass.  The mark is "The Parker Fan Blade Patented".  I thought the "improved" blades were marked " The Parker Improved Fan Blade".  Am I wrong on that?" ~ Dan Morris 4th post

Bill Hoehn shared images of Emerson mid to later 20s catalogues on the old website. Somebody must have them.

The 1930 Emerson fan motor catalogue shared by Steve Cunnigham in the members only catalogue section has the 29646 back on the market. We would need to see 1925-27 and 29 catalogues for their offerings.

The available Emerson data cut-off is 1925. 1926 and 27 catalogues would be most helpful.

This isn't 100% my field of expertise, but did the 29648 go from the big motor to the smaller one at some point? I swear my 29648 had a larger motor than my (many) 73648.

Not my expertise either. The only big motor on the 29xxx models was the 6 wing residence type 29666. The last big motor Emerson made was on the 16" 6 wing 73668.

The 27648 was the last of the four blade big motors. The 29648 was totally redesigned motor.
