Did Jandus Bernard Stowe pay Diehl patent rights to the oscillating mechanism?

Adams & Bagnall offered a Jandus badged DC vane oscillator in 1911.  Jandus/ABJandus, Dayton Fan & Motor, and Shedd scratched each other's backs in 11 sharing fan motor components and models to complete their fan motor line to compete in the fan motor market.

I am fairly confident (impression) the image you posted above is a prototype design that didn't go to market.

There were Dayton tagged models of the same fan. Surprised that none have to the best of my knowledge surfaced.

Introduced in 1910. Still on the market 1911. Electrical trade I have scanned does not clearly support it on the market in 1912.

Jandus appears to have partnered with Dayton Fan & Motor for their 8" residence stationary desk fan as early as 1909. Jandus tagged them as their own fan motor line.

Thank you for posting this for us, Russ.    That walking foot Diehl is one difficult fan to find in the flesh.  What an amazing piece of engineering.  Great post as usual.

Thanks, Mel. And a super thanks to Steve Rockwell for generously sharing those priceless images from the past. A window in time many of us will never see in the flesh.

The Diehl walking foot and the 8" Jandus/Dayton oscillators with Stowe's patented mechanism were manufactured in a small window of time.

I don't believe A-B ever
   offered a vane oscillator.

Interpretation...

I construe, "The...  ...fan..."
as all fans, of all brands in
the class of DC oscillators,
just to make the oscillator
types distinction.

If just "Jandus," would not
it had been written...

1909 Shedd introduces their NEW vane oscillator. Dayton appears to have rights to the Shedd vane as well as Westinghouse for the 09 season.

In 10 Dayton advertises Bernard Stowe's patented POSITIVE drive 8" RESIDENCE oscillator to their fan motor line. At the same time Jandus has Bernie's patented Positive drive 8" fan added to their fan motor line using a Dayton fan motor frame. What kind of deal did Jandus & Dayton Fan & Motor work out?

Jandus rebadging and marketing Dayton's Shedd vane oscillator as their own?

Jandus will make mention in electrical trade they are marketing an 8" oscillator and a vane, but you will not see any images advertised in their fan motor line in that small time slot that they were marketed.

Your entitled to believe what you want. There is no doubt in my mind Jandus marketed a Dayton Shedd vane as part of their fan motor line for one or two seasons. 🙂

Mr. Howerton bringing in the research

You got it. I wonder if Robert Howerton from Texas got a new name as well? I had an uncle named Bob Huber. 🙂
