Steve Butler Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 I was experiencing a little sellers remorse after Fan Fair. I sold a very nice 16” tank and a couple tank stumps that were taking up too much space. Fortunately tanks tend to accumulate. I got this Saturday at a live auction, no internet bidding or buyers premium. It’s in really nice shape and runs smooth on both speeds. I like the blade and badge patina. 15 Quote
Michael Bouthiller Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 Does it have the original cord Steve? Quote

Stan Adams Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 Wow Steve, first win the raffle fan, then new grandchild, & then find this. These are the best tanks, they run nearly silent! Great find! 1 Quote
Russ Huber Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 (edited) I am always impressed to see 6 wing blades on a tank motor fan. Probably because I have never seen one on any of mine. 🙂 Introduced to the electrical trade in 1910. 1911 Edited August 13, 2024 by Russ Huber 1 Quote

Did I read somewhere on an earlier forum post that the 6 blade was an option to get and still work as a replacement for the 4 winger without it being a 6 pole motor? 1 Quote

She needs to re-examine her priorities. 😉 Someday I hope to add a D/C tank to the collection. Quote

Westinghouse was a stickler for style numbers for specific models typically based on its design, function and voltage. The 6 wing tank models have specific style numbers as they were designed with 6 pole stators. No, I have never read in electrical trade the 6-wing tank blade was optional. If you have valid proof otherwise, please share it and I will stand corrected. As most of us know, Western Electric marketed the Westinghouse tank fan under their badge, tag, and style number. The images below are specific Westinghouse style numbers for Westinghouse 6-pole 6-wing tank fan motors. Edited August 13, 2024 by Russ Huber Quote
Russ Huber Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 The AFCA galleries have these 6 wing tanks dated as early as 1907. I see one in there with a cutout banner which is a replacement for the original solid banner. The 12" ONLY 6-pole 6-wing residence tank motor fan was introduced to the market through Westinghouse and Western Electric in 1910. 1907 All Original 12" 6 Blade Westinghouse Tank Motor Desk Fan - Antique Fan Supply Co (antiquefanparts.com) Quote

Daniel Herczeg Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 I believe there is one of these at a nearby antique store, however, the cage is broken, and the fan is selling for something like $225. Quote

If it’s a six wing I say go get it. The cage can be repaired. Any decent four wing tank is going to set you back $200-$300 in as found running condition. Quote
Daniel Herczeg Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 It's a six wing, but I don't believe it is in running condition. Is it still worth it? 1 hour ago, Steve Butler said: If it’s a six wing I say go get it. The cage can be repaired. Louis Weedman Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 One way to cure seller's remorse: buy more fans 😁 Nice Hawthorn! 2 Quote

If you're uncertain about the purchase, go there and take some detailed pictures and post them before its gone. Get a clear picture of the motor tag and the style number. Quote
Daniel Herczeg Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 I'm probably jinxing myself here, but I don't think it will go anywhere anytime soon. It's the same westinghouse being discussed. Quote

The fan being discussed is a Westinghouse marketed and rebadged by Western Electric. Quote
Daniel Herczeg Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 The one I am talking about seems to be just the westinghouse with no rebadge. However, I am only in proximity to the shop while I am on vacation, and I will leave the day after I go, if I even go in the first place. I will try to find other pictures of the same model. Quote
