I was experiencing a little sellers remorse after Fan Fair.  I sold a very nice 16” tank and a couple tank stumps that were taking up too much space.  Fortunately tanks tend to accumulate.   I got this Saturday at a live auction, no internet bidding or buyers premium.  It’s in really nice shape and runs smooth on both speeds. I like the blade and badge patina.

No, it has the insulated kind probably from a toaster or iron.

Wow Steve, first win the raffle fan, then new grandchild, & then find this. These are the best tanks, they run nearly silent! Great find!

I am always impressed to see 6 wing blades on a tank motor fan. Probably because I have never seen one on any of mine. 🙂  Introduced to the electrical trade in 1910.

Hi Russ! Correct me if I am wrong... Did I read somewhere on an earlier forum post that the 6 blade was an option to get and still work as a replacement for the 4 winger without it being a 6 pole motor?

I am very blessed in spite of myself.    Donna didn’t go with me to the auction because she was more concerned about little Ava’s arrival.   She needs to re-examine her priorities. 😉  Someday I hope to add a D/C tank to the collection.

Westinghouse was a stickler for style numbers for specific models typically based on its design, function and voltage. The 6 wing tank models have specific style numbers as they were designed with 6 pole stators.

No, I have never read in electrical trade the 6-wing tank blade was optional. If you have valid proof otherwise, please share it and I will stand corrected.

As most of us know, Western Electric marketed the Westinghouse tank fan under their badge, tag, and style number.

The images below are specific Westinghouse style numbers for Westinghouse 6-pole 6-wing tank fan motors.

I believe there is one of these at a nearby antique store, however, the cage is broken, and the fan is selling for something like $225.

Same as bracket and desk types, so is it saying 6 pole? It's not clear in my thick head...

Relatively low price for a 6 wing tank

If it’s a six wing I say go get it.  The cage can be repaired.  Any decent four wing tank is going to set you back  $200-$300 in as found running condition.

It's a six wing, but I don't believe it is in running condition. Is it still worth it?

If you're uncertain about the purchase, go there and take some detailed pictures and post them before its gone. Get a clear picture of the motor tag and the style number.

I'm probably jinxing myself here, but I don't think it will go anywhere anytime soon. It's the same westinghouse being discussed.

It is saying it is a 6-pole. Now you can clear your thick head.

If you don't think it is going anywhere, and the shop is nearby. get some pictures. We can anti-Jinx you. If you snooze, you lose.

The fan being discussed is a Westinghouse marketed and rebadged by Western Electric.

The one I am talking about seems to be just the westinghouse with no rebadge. However, I am only in proximity to the shop while I am on vacation, and I will leave the day after I go, if I even go in the first place. I will try to find other pictures of the same model.
