Jim Roadt Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 I will be cleaning this one up. I probably will figure it out but how does blade come off , same as emerson with locking rotor and CCW What is the white wire coming from motor for? Fan and lights work and it was capped and connected to nothing in switch housing? 3 Quote
Jim Roadt Posted December 7, 2023 Author Posted December 7, 2023 yep CW Is this an Emerson motor Quote
Evan Atkinson Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) Victor. I think your Luminaire is the “Florentine Bronze” finish. Nice looking. Interesting that your fan has that ornamental union mid-way on the pole stand. Mine does not have that. Your motor is the early one with the pot-metal bearing holders, with oilers. Tread cautiously! Terry Fisher Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 That ornamental union sure looks good. I have never seen that. Quote
Michael Rathberger Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) I recall somewhere that union was for the taller versions. Jim, how tall is that fan? Mine is about 5' or so. Well under 6' anyway. Edited December 7, 2023 by Michael Rathberger Quote

George Durbin Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) The union was made to take fan apart and it had a box to make it portable so it could be taken apart and then to the home for home viewings... Funerals back in the day was often held in the home for the dearly departed... I believe the museum has a couple of these boxes... I guess this is how they got the nick name " parlor fan" Edited December 7, 2023 by George Durbin Quote
Lane Shirey Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 The union is on the less common 6’ version. Mine has that. My 5’ models don’t have the union. Quote

I guess this is how they got the nick name " parlor fan" Could they be used at a funeral? Yes. Where they intended to be marketed for funerals at private residence or funeral home? No. It truly is just a parlor fan leaving the funeral designation out of it. I recall this being hashed out in past on the old website. Despite, this, it always comes back to the lights having flesh tone to match the skin of the dead, the fan keeps the flies dispersed. My mother was raised in the depression. When her father died prematurely, the body was kept in the home for days. They did not have running water, an outhouse out back. No money for a Luminaire. Quote

George Durbin Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) I agree Russ! But these things take a life of their own... And you know these funeral fellers seen these and had to say wow! These would look good at opposite ends of the casket and as a benefit would look good in a home for home funerals.. Who decided the pink or flesh colored bulbs look best on the dead? One of the many mysteries? And I would think 2 fans looked better than one for balance at the casket setting in the home parlor or funeral parlor and was so over the top gaudy they were perfect for those hot and humid days in the south. I have no proof of this of course other than the pictures Steve Cunningham mentioned... wasn't there fragrance bags or cannisters that could be used on the back of these fans? Even if he coughs up a legit photo of a funeral home with a Luminaire on each end of the casket, you just witnessed the advertisement I posted above. They are for office, sales room, consultation rooms, parlor fans for multiple purpose. Not for the sole purpose of a damn funeral. The guy (Charles Ryder) who designed the breeze spreader and Luminaire was designing car parts prior. That's right, the Luminaire was designed by a gear head. 🙂 Quote
Michael Rathberger Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 One shows up in the movie "The Cincinnati Kid," not running but there to cool the card players. Quote

Google might crash trying to determine if original factory Honestly, my impression is even if the books open up for the Luminaire and its finish, don't expect too much. I have already tried to connect Luminaire to polychrome in the books more than once and the snippets cough up no connection. Terry had the good fortune of at least 3 other examples with similar polychrome highlights. Quote
Terry Fisher Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 That ornamental union looks like another one of those special orders produced by Leprechauns after hours in the factory. Those little buggers sure are busy wrecking havoc with Mr. Huber's documentation. 1 Quote

George Durbin Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 I don't ever wage war about fans... I am a humble student for the AFCA and I learn everyday and see stuff I have never seen or knew existed! The parlor fan I have is near perfect with that bronze finish... I have 2 or three others with the usual broken ass rear covers... But if I was a funeral director I would have said WOW! The possibilities!! 😅🤣😂 Geo... 1 Quote

Neither had the correct switch. The threaded shafts were plastic and to long. This outfit I posted is reasonable, the switch is decent, and has cheap shipping. My total bill was $7. 17. And they ship fast. Now Jim is going to go to Home Depot and Lowes anyway just to see if he can better my offer/help.🙂 Unfortunately for me, both of those places are over an hour from my home.
