Louis Luu Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 I want to make a toy version of this....just relaxing today. Thee are all the available pictures I have. Quote
Louis Luu Posted April 8, 2023 Author Posted April 8, 2023 All lined up so the perspective come out correct. Quote
Louis Luu Posted April 11, 2023 Author Posted April 11, 2023 one piece at a time. Will smooth it out later. Quote
Louis Luu Posted April 11, 2023 Author Posted April 11, 2023 I made the iron core hollow with 2mm thickness....less weight and cost effective. The bell two side piece will be printed in brass. The iron core for the wire is a bit smaller in diameter than the drawings so wires can be wrapped. Quote

I got me a demo winding motor to try to figure how to wind motors and hook them up. I will most likely need help from David Cherry with the machining....not very good at that. I am aiming for a toy size with the ceiling blade portion around 12 inch in diameter. Quote
Louis Luu Posted April 12, 2023 Author Posted April 12, 2023 Fixed the curvatures on the end cap. A bit blending will get rid o the sharp lines. The end cap is removable. The two columns are separate and will make winding easier. Quote

Jim Kovar Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 The green pieces wouldhave to be nonmagnetic. Brass most likely wouldhave been used. Quote

Can the endbells be brass? The green part I can print in non-magnetic steel. The rest I can print in magnetic steel. Quote
Louis Luu Posted April 12, 2023 Author Posted April 12, 2023 I'm guessing the endbells can not be in brass....needs to have magnetic field? 1 Quote
Jim Kovar Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 (edited) The magnetic circuit of the Ketcher motor is basically like joining two 2-coil bipolar motors together, bottom to bottom. ldeally, the magnetic flux (the dashed lines) would be confined to field's iron cores, pole pieces and armatures. And the unavoidable but nessessary small air gaps between the pole faces and armatures. Edited April 13, 2023 by Jim Kovar 1 Quote
Louis Luu Posted April 13, 2023 Author Posted April 13, 2023 (edited) All fixed. The two pieces holding the magnet pole will be used as attachment points for the swivel and ceiling attachments and printed in brass. Edited April 13, 2023 by Louis Luu Quote
Anthony Villanacci Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 I’m not sure how true to the drawings you are intending to be, but to my eye the original assembly was something like this. Anthony 2 Quote

Anthony Villanacci Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 On second thought, I’d wager the spacers were a single cast piece on each end. Makes more sense from a manufacturing point of view. My proportions are off in the drawing but hopefully you get the idea. I like your idea to recreate this motor from the drawings, I’m excited to see your progress. Anthony 1 Quote

I especially dig and totally agree with your spacer bracket revision. This would ensure perfect spacing between the cores and make for a more rigid assemblage. Quote
Jim Kovar Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 (edited) I also dig your integral one piece cores. No magnetic joints... Less reluctance...That's a good thing! Edited April 13, 2023 by Jim Kovar Quote
