I know I saw that CF before, but it just didn't fit the styling of all the manufacturers I have upstairs in my gray matter. I was stuck between Bates & Dayton. Bates was ruled out after a few scans. I then punched in Dayton fan motors for 1900 and......Bingo. There she was. You don't have to speculate, That is a 1899-1900 Dayton two winger. 1

My bet is it started on the same principle as the same season AC desk fan. Westinghouse took Dayton to court for infringement on these models. Westinghouse won and the Dayton desk fan for 1901 was DC only. Edited November 26, 2023 by Russ Huber

Electrical Record 08 did not support them having AC ceiling or portables on the market in the fan motor manufacturer listings. Hard to contest the dated Dayton advertisement. Russ Huber
I wonder if the Dayton AC was the introduction of the 8" universal brushed model? Check out the AC desk portables and AC ceiling fan listings. No Dayton. Edited November 27, 2023 by Russ Huber

Russ Huber
I stand corrected. Dayton AC fans were still on the market in 01.

Russ Huber
Dayton NOW appears strictly DC fan motors 1902-07.
Steve Rockwell
Those connectors between front and rear rings were bothering me... being on 1908 fans. It appears that once Westinghouse applied the brakes on Dayton, and Diehl punctuated the situation in '01--- followed by G.E.'s coup-de-grace, Dayton stayed for a while in the safe lane of DC fan production... The image in question was used repeatedly over a period of years... The missing strut(s) are misleading. Steve Stephens contributed this image in a fan guard/strut thread: https://new.afcaforum.com/index.php?/topic/4208-peerless-spin-crank-kick-start-cage-ok-so-turns-out-it-is-early-rm-standard-ca-1902-1904/#comment-29718 It's a real pity they gave up on this type of ornate design..... Russ Huber
They only offered that DC model in 12" spanning what appears 1901-1909. I wish whoever posted the real deal would be kind enough to post the rest of it, please.
